It's a Twin Thing

When you are 3 weeks old, most of your time is spent sleeping. Right now I am reading "On Becoming Baby Wise". It has been recommended to me through my pediatrician. One principal in the book states that it is important not to rush right to your baby when he starts to cry in bed, and he will hopefully learn to sooth himself. My first reaction after reading this was, "Yeah right. I have twins. How will that work without one waking the other up?" Over the past few days I have watched as Jack is crying and Caleb will be sleeping soundly only inches away. And this works the same way in reverse. I guess this could be considered one of those "twin things" that Aunt Linda and Aunt Lisa have been telling me about. :)
These past weeks have been a little bit of a blur. Allen described it as feeling like you're living in a bunker or bomb shelter, shut off from the outside world. That's really how it starts to feel. Yesterday, I told Kyle I needed to get out of the house by myself for just an hour or so. I got in the car, rolled down the windows, turned the radio up, and just went for a drive. It was exactly what I needed. It felt so good to be outside.
These first pictures are of our boys sleeping, which is how they spend most of their time. :)

This bib pretty much says it all. Our boys are growing like weeds! Jack is now 7 lbs 8oz. and Caleb is 6lbs. 7oz. We are so proud of how they have grown.

Pictures were posted on the last blog of Jack's first bath at home so I thought I would post some of Caleb's first bath this time. As you can see, he loves it just as much as his brother.

Jack's umbilical cord fell off this week. He is growing up! What's next, college? :)I think he definitely has an outie. I am excited to give him his first real bath. A sponge bath with a slippery baby is not easy!

Dear Family & Friends

To Our Dearest Family & Friends,
Thank you doesn't accurately express how grateful we are for all of the love and support you all have shown us over the past 2 weeks. We feel as if you have put your arms around us and supported us through this journey. Both our beautiful boys are home, both healthy and happy. Kyle was blessed to be able to take off for 18 days, so we have just been spending time at home, enjoying being a family. Here are just a few pictures from the past few weeks. We love you all!

Friday

Today we had our final doctor's appointment. We decided that Friday would be the big day! I can't believe it is finally here! I am so excited. My c-section is scheduled for 2:30 in the afternoon. This is a much better time, I think. It will be nice to leisurely get up and get ready instead of having to get up at 4:30 in the morning. As the time gets closer, I am finding myself thinking more and more about what is about to happen...the epidural, the c-section procedure, etc. As someone who has never had major surgery, I am feeling more and more apprehensive. The idea of it all is very scary. But then there is the thought of my two little ones that I will FINALLY get to meet and the fear seems to fade away (although not completely). :)
Here are some pictures of our beautiful nursery. I absolutely love it! It turned out better than I could have imagined. Thank you to everyone who had a part in putting it together...Mom and Nani made alot of the things you see because we could only find one crib set. They were able to piece together material that was from other bedding sets with the same pattern. Amazing! Kyle and Dad painted and put things together. And of course, my wonderful husband, who did the beautiful trim work. I can't wait to bring our twins home to this amazing room.
As always, your prayers are greatly appreciated. Please pray that the twins will both be developed enough that they will be able to stay at Stonecrest with us and not have to be transported somewhere else. Please pray that everything goes well with the c-section and there are no complications with the delivery. And pray that the Lord will be with Kyle and I on Friday and that He will put his hand on our precious babies.

Bed Rest

Yesterday I had another doctor's appointment. I knew that my swelling feet and legs had gotten worse, but Dr. Riley has never acted concerned as long as my blood pressure stayed down. The last time I went in, my b.p. was up. Yesterday it was up again. I was surprised when he mentioned moving the date for my c-section up a few days (the 21st). I told him that I wanted to wait until the 24th but we would do whatever needed to be done. Dr. Riley said if we were going to try to make it to the 24th, he wanted to see me on Monday and Thursday. So, we're just waiting to see how things look on Monday.
Part of me is excited at the possibility of meeting our babies a few days early. But I feel like I've prepared myself for the 24th and to think of everything changing is difficult. Not only am I afraid of being mentally unprepared, I am afraid of being unprepared at home. We've gotten so much accomplished these last few weeks since I've been out of school (probably one of the reasons my feet and legs are so swollen), but there is still a lot to do. When I was still going to school everyday, all I wanted for Dr. Riley to say was "you need to stay off your feet and lay down". But I don't think it's going to be easy to stay put.
Please pray for us and our babies. Whatever the Lord thinks is best for our babies is what we want to do. I pray that we will be able to know exactly what that is.

Nursery Update

This past week Kyle finished putting the trim up in the nursery. I love it! It's beautiful. After that he cleaned the carpets in the house and they look great too! I can't wait to start putting our furniture in. This weekend I started to wash clothes and put them away. I've had so much fun looking through everything and folding the little tiny clothes.
Friday was 36 weeks! Not a lot of twin pregnancies make it this long, so it's really exciting for everything to be going so well. At our last ultrasound, we found out that our babies are 5 lbs. 3 oz. and 5 lbs. 11oz. It's unbelievable to think that I'm carrying around so much weight! Although I don't have another pregnancy to compare it to, I think I've been really blessed during this time. I've had hardly any back pain, which is hard for me to believe considering they weigh so much.
Dr. Riley scheduled my c-section for the 24th at 7:30, 2 weeks from tomorrow! I'm so so ready to meet these babies, so ready to find out what they are.
Wednesday was my last day at school. It's been so unbelievably nice to have the time to just go through things and put things away and have some time for myself. I see a pedicure in the very near future. :)
There is still a lot to do before the big day, but I'm enjoying every second of it. I'm overjoyed to have started this time in my life.

Friends

A couple of weeks ago, our friends threw us a surprise baby shower. I thought we were just meeting for our usual Thursday night dinner, which I look forward to all week. My first thought after seeing the balloons and decorations was "Who's birthday is it?" But once I saw the two large baby balloons, I knew this party was probably for us. :) I've discovered that pregnancy affects your brain in funny ways: forgetting things, locking yourself out of the house, slower to pick up on what's going on, etc. If all you other ladies who have had babies do not know what I'm talking about, just humor me.

Isn't this an adorable cake? I don't think anything will top the famous "Peas in a Pod" cake, but it came in a very close second. I'm a sucker for polka dots.
And the fact that it had the title of our blog and the verse on it made it so incredibly special. You ladies out did yourselves!

After seeing this picture, I was shocked to see just how wide I have become. Must be the horizontal stripes. :)

Norah and Addie B. helping me open some presents. A party is not a party without these 2 ladies.

Among the many great gifts, the Perry's gave us these awesome plates. Aren't they cute!? Another product from Etsy.com! If you've never been to their site, you must check it out.

We are always excited to get any toys that are policeman related. They are so hard to find! This car came from Samantha's parents.

Thank you Meagan, Samantha, and Holly for such a great baby shower! I love surprises! And thank you to everyone who took the time to celebrate with us. We are truly blessed to have such wonderful friends to share this amazing, exciting time with.

Yes, this is a goofy picture. But it's a good picture of the belly. I like to think of this as my "super model that is pregnant with twins" face. :)
This week we finished up TCAP testing at school. Wow, I'm drained. I'm really needing the weekend to come fast. I am feeling more and more tired at school as the days go by (not to use my blog for whining and complaining) :) Next week is our next ultrasound. I can't wait to see our babies again! As Jessica once said (I think it was Jessica), sometimes I wish I could see inside my belly to make sure they're ok, which would be a little scary but very handy.

I just had to put a picture of these on the blog. I found these at Target. Every newborn baby needs a pair of workout pants, right? Now they have something to work out in when they go to the gym with their Daddy. :)
Let me just say, Kyle and I have the most awesome friends. We were surprised, well I was surprised, with a baby shower tonight. More details and pictures to come, but I just want to thank Meagan, Samantha, and Holly. You ladies are the best! We had so much fun!
